Fort Wayne, IN --The Komets chipped the Gems at Dayton Saturday night 2-1 in front of 2,653 fans at Hara Arena, the largest crowd of the season for Dayton. It was the third straight win over the Gems for the Komets who improved to 4-4-1 in nine meetings against Dayton. The Komets have earned points in seven of their last eight games.
Komet netminder Nick Boucher registered his eighth win of the season on 40 saves for first star honors. Boucher is unbeaten in regulation in six straight appearances.
Center Colin Chaulk scored his first career CHL goal. P.C. Drouin netted the game winner and assisted on Chaulk's marker for a two-point night.
Defenseman Guy Dupuis had assists on each goal to break Fort Wayne's franchise record of career assists by a defenseman. Dupuis' second assist of the night was his 403rd helper in 910 regular season Fort Wayne career games. The old record of 402 was set by Lionel Repka in 1969. Dupuis also extended his point-scoring streak to four games (1 goal, 4 assists) assists.
The Komets return home today to face the Quad City Mallards at 5pm. The Mallards upended the IceMen at Evansville last night 7-4 for their fourth win in five games. Quad City clipped the Komets at Fort Wayne in the last meeting 6-5 in overtime New Year's Eve to keep the K's winless against Quad City in the last three meetings.
