
Knowles Placed on Injured List, Driskill Returned to FredNats

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The Washington Nationals announced on Saturday that right-handed pitcher Aaron Barrett has joined the Fredericksburg Nationals for a minor league rehabilitation assignment from Triple-A Rochester. In addition, first baseman Kevin Strohschein and right-handed pitcher Carlos Romero have been added to the FredNats roster from the Complex League in Florida.
Barrett, 33, is 6-3 with a 4.01 earned run average in parts of four seasons with the Washington Nationals. After suffering a major arm injury in 2015, he underwent extensive rehab and returned to the big leagues in 2019 and 2020. He becomes the first player with major league experience to play for the FredNats, and will wear uniform number 27.
Strohchein, 23, rejoins the FredNats after batting .158 with two runs batted in over 16 games. The McDonough, Georgia native was Fredericksburg's Opening Day first baseman, but was transferred to the Complex League on June 1. He will wear uniform number 16.
Romero, 21, will be making his first appearance on a game mound since 2019. The Venezuela native is 10-6 with a 3.52 earned run average across three minor league seasons, most recently with short-season Auburn in 2019. He went 0-5 with a 5.25 earned run average in 11 games, 10 starts, for the Doubledays. He will wear uniform number 36.
The Fredericksburg active roster currently stands at 30 players.
The Fredericksburg Nationals continue their series against the Lynchburg Hillcats on Saturday night. First pitch from FredNats Ballpark is scheduled for 6:05.
