August 10, 2020 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Orlando City SC News Release
This is it. The MLS is Back Final. City will face Portland for a chance to claim silverware and a spot in the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League Tuesday night at 8:00 pm ET. Here is what you need to know about our opponents:
Key Transactions and Player News
Portland's key losses in the offseason were forward Brian Fernandez and defender Zarek Valentin. Fernandez scored 11 goals in 19 appearances last year while Valentin appeared in 21 matches.
The main acquisitions from Portland's offseason to note have been defender Dario Zuparic, midfielder Yimmi Chara, forward Jaroslaw Niezgoda and forward Felipe Mora. Zuparic has been starting regularly in the backline during the tournament while Niezgoda and Mora have been primarily used as second-half substitutions.
In terms of the Injury Report, Portland will certainly be without Dairon Asprilla who had left knee surgery in late May. Yimmi Chara is questionable with a right thigh injury as well as Marco Farfan who is listed with a right ankle injury. Farfan was available on the bench for Portland in their last match while Yimmi Chara was left off the teamsheet.
Team Form
You don't get to the Final of a tournament without being in good form. Like City, Portland drew one group stage match and went to penalties once during the knockout stage. Portland's group stage draw was a 2-2 meeting with LAFC and their knockout stage penalty shootout came against FC Cincinnati.
Head-to-Head
All-time, City is 3-1-1 against the Portland Timbers. The last meeting came back in July of last season with the match ending in a 1-1 draw in Portland.
Rasmussen College Fact
The last time City met Portland in Orlando, The Lions stormed back from down 0-2 to win 3-2 with three goals in the final ten minutes of the match.
