Ottawa Lynx News Release
OTTAWA - RHP Gary Knotts has been transferred to the Lynx roster from Double-A Reading. The Lynx also got OF Chris Roberson from the Phillies while RHP Geoff Geary was recalled by Philadelphia.
Knotts, 30, made three starts with the Reading Phillies, going 1-2 with a 0.86 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched. He was the Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week last week, getting his first win after nine shutout innings of one-hit ball against the Erie SeaWolves. He spent most of the 2007 season with the independent Newark Bears, going 7-6 with a 2.65 ERA. The Phillies signed him to a Minor League contract July 31 after he was leading the Atlantic League in ERA, was second in strikeouts and third in innings pitched.
Roberson, 27, was hitting .266 with 4 HR and 43 RBI in 105 games for the Lynx this season. When he was called up August 1, Roberson had accumulated the most at-bats in the International League and was tied for third in hits and was seventh in the IL in runs scored. His 16 stolen bases are still good for a tie for the Lynx lead. The speedy outfielder hit .280 in 18 games with the Phillies. Roberson made his Major League debut last season with Philadelphia, hitting .195 in 57 games.
Geary, 30, was 2-1 with a 2.54 ERA in 14 games with the Lynx. He struck out 21 batters in 25 innings. Geary has accumulated a 1-2 record with a 5.28 ERA in 40 games with the Phillies this season. Last year, he reached career highs in wins (7), innings (91.1), games (81) and strikeouts (60). Geary finished tied for second among National League relievers in innings, third in winning percentage, tied for fourth in wins and tied for sixth in games played. This is his 10th professional season.
This is the first season the Lynx are the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. The Lynx Box Office is Open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 4 pm. Ticket information can be found at www.ottawalynx.com or by calling 613 747-LYNX (5969).
