INDIANAPOLIS, IN–Charlotte (13-13) prevailed in a pitcher's dual Tuesday night at Victory Field, defeating Indianapolis (15-8), 3-1, in 10 innings. The Tribe is now 2-2 in extra innings affairs.

Tribe starter Jorge De La Rosa shut out Charlotte for three innings. In the fourth, the Knights got on the board first as Ryan Hankins doubled to left and scored on a bases loaded walk from Tribe reliever Matt Wise, who had just stepped in for De La Rosa.

Jeff Liefer then smashed his third homer in four days, over the right field wall, off Charlotte reliever Mitch Wylie, to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth, 1-1.

Indianapolis threatened in the seventh off Wylie. Corey Hart beat out an infield single to deep shortstop to start the frame. He advanced to second on Scott Sheldon's sacrifice bunt. Mark Johnson then hit a sharp line drive to left field. The left fielder, Mario Valenzuela, speared the ball, then threw a dart to shortstop Jose Valentin covering second to double up Hart.

In the ninth, Hart singled with two outs to center off Charlotte reliever Jose Santiago. He then stole second base, but Scott Sheldon lined out to center to end the threat, sending the game into extra innings.

Indianapolis reliever Todd Erdos (0-1) entered the game in the 10th and was greeted by Mike Bell's opposite field two-out, two-run homer, which proved to be the game winning hit.

"I try to do the same thing each time I go to the plate," said Bell. "I was looking to make contact and got a little lucky there."

Santiago (1-1) put down the Tribe in order in the bottom of the 10th to preserve the victory.

The two teams meet Wednesday as Indianapolis will send right-hander Travis Phelps (0-0, 9.00) against Charlotte right-hander Felix Diaz (4-0, 2.01).

Ryan Knox will join Indianapolis tomorrow as he has been recalled from Double-A Huntsville. Knox, 26, appeared in 23 games for the Stars. He hit .250 with one home run, 8 RBI and stole four bases. Knox hit .385 when leading off an inning with Huntsville and .286 with runners on base.

The 6-1, 190-pounder from Peoria, Ill., appeared in 36 games with Indianapolis last year. He hit .275 with no homers and 5 RBI and stole 17 bases.
