Ottawa Lynx News Release
OTTAWA â The Ottawa Lynx may have struggled on the mound early this year, but help is on the way. The help comes in the form of possibly the biggest pitching prospect every to suit up for the Lynx, RHP John Maine. Maine, the Baltimore Orioles 2003 Minor League pitcher of the year, has been recalled from Double-A Bowie, and added to the Lynx roster.
At only 22 years of age, Maine has had an outstanding start to his minor league career. Deemed the 2nd best prospect in the Orioles system by Baseball America, he has dominated at every level he has pitched at during his career.
Maine's call-up was certainly deserved. At Double-A Bowie this year he made five starts, going 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA. In 28.0 innings pitched, the 6'4 right-hander had given up only 16 hits, while striking out 34 batters. He now has a career Minor League record of 18-6, with a 2.11 ERA, including 313 strikeouts in 246 innings.
Maine will join the Lynx today, and will make his Triple-A debut tomorrow evening in game two of the Lynx series in Pawtucket. The Lynx start a four-game series in Pawtucket this evening, before returning home on Saturday, May 8th for an eight game homestand featuring four games against Indianapolis.
