(Syracuse, NY) - It was quite the doubleheader for Dan Johnson on Saturday.

Johnson had two hits in game one, homered twice including a fifth inning grand slam in game two and the Charlotte Knights split a doubleheader with the Syracuse Chiefs on Saturday afternoon from Alliance Bank Stadium in Syracuse, NY. The Knights lost game one 5-3, but then came back to pummel the Chiefs in the second game 11-1.

Johnson finished the doubleheader a combined 4-6 with three runs scored, two home runs and seven RBIs. He's currently batting .303 on the year with three home runs and 17 RBIs.

In the top of the fourth inning of game two, Johnson put the Knights on the scoreboard with a two-run home run off Syracuse starter Tanner Roark (1-4, 4.85). The Knights had a 2-0 lead at that point.

One inning later, with two runs already in, Johnson launched a grand slam off of Roark, which made it an 8-0 Knights lead.

The Knights added to their lead in the top of the seventh inning courtesy of a Jordan Danks three-run home run. Danks was 3-4 with two runs scored, a home run and three RBIs. He now has two home runs on the season.

Charlotte reliever Leyson Septimo (2-0, 0.00) threw two shutout innings for the win. He has not allowed a run in six games (10.2 innings) this season.

As for game one, Charlie Shirek (3-2, 4.40) started for the Knights and was saddled with the loss. The reigning International League Pitcher of the Week allowed five runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings. Both of Shirek's losses have now come on the road, while all three of his wins have come at Knights Stadium.

Josh Phegley had two hits in the first game and extended his hit streak to 11 games. The Knights young catcher is currently hitting .397 on the season.

The Knights and Chiefs were playing a doubleheader on Saturday because Friday's game was postponed due to cold weather. Game three of the four-game series is set for Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from Syracuse.
