Dustin Boyd notched a hat trick and Curtis McElhinney stopped 32 shots to lead the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights to a 4-1 win over the Toronto Marlies on Thursday night at the Air Canada Centre. The win ended a two-game losing streak and moved the Knights back into first place in the West Division.

The Knights earned their first goal on a five-on-three man advantage. Dave Moss found Andrei Taratukhin who whipped a blind pass to an uncovered Boyd. He roofed a shot over goalie Justin Pogge for his fifth goal of the year.

On the ensuing five on four, Tim Ramholt blasted home his first North American pro goal. It came just 59 seconds after Boyd's goal off assists from Brad Ference and Carsen Germyn.

The Knights made it 3-0 with more sharp passing. Moss hit Boyd alone in front and he beat Pogge with a backhander for his second goal of the game.

The Marlies outshot the Knights 19-6 in the second period and trimmed the lead at 8:38 when Colin Murphy rammed in the puck during a netmouth scramble.

The Knights got the goal back during a penalty kill. Richie Regehr caught a deflected pass and threw the puck to Boyd sprinting down the left wing. He beat Pogge for his team-leading seventh goal of the season to make it 4-1. McElhinney made 27 of his 32 saves over the final two periods.

The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights are now 9-2-1-0. They took over first place because the Iowa Stars lost at home to the Houston Aeros.
