Charlotte Knights News Release
(Fort Mill, SC) - The Durham Bulls arrived in Fort Mill for a four-game series on Thursday with a chance to get back at the Knights for sweeping them earlier this season. Instead, backed by solid pitching, timely hitting, and late-inning heroics, the Knights swept the Bulls for the second time this season.
Charlotte (54-42) scored a run in each of the first three innings of Sunday's game and went on to shutout the Bulls 4-0 in the finale of the four-game series from Knights Stadium. The win was Charlotte's eight-straight at home against Durham this season.
The first place Knights were led on Sunday by solid pitching from starter Simon Castro and three relievers. Castro, who was activated off the disabled list earlier in the day, did not allow a run in his three innings of work on Sunday.
Three Knights relievers then combined to toss six scoreless innings.
Scott Carroll, who made his Knights debut on Sunday, allowed just one hit over two shutout innings. Dan Remenowsky (2-1, 4.30) earned the win after striking out three batters over two sharp innings. Daniel Moskos, a product of Clemson University, shut the door in both the eighth and ninth innings of Sunday's game.
Offensively, Hector Gimenez and Dallas McPherson played key roles in Sunday's shutout. Gimenez homered in the second inning off of Durham starter Lance Pendleton (4-4, 4.24), while McPherson launched a home run an inning later.
Gimenez went 2-3 on the day with the home run, his 12thof the season. McPherson's home run was his sixth of the year. Tyler Kuhn chipped in with two hits. He now has 30 multi-hit games this season.
The Knights will now make the trek to Rochester, NY to face the Empire State Yankees in game one of a four-game series on Monday. LHP Charlie Leesman will take the mound for the Knights in game one. The Yankees will send RHP Ramon Ortiz to the hill. First pitch on Monday is 7:05 p.m.
