Charlotte Knights News Release

(DURHAM, NC) - The Charlotte Knights dropped the finale of a six-game series against the Durham Bulls by a score of 8-7 on Sunday evening from Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Bulls scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to go on for the come-from-behind victory.

Charlotte third baseman Jake Burger continued his red-hot start to the season with a three-hit day. The 25-year-old finished the game 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Right fielder Blake Rutherford also remained red-hot at the plate and added three hits. Rutherford, who is now batting .317 on the season, went 3-for-5 with three runs scored on Sunday.

LHP Matt Tomshaw started for the Knights and was impressive over seven innings of work. Tomshaw, making just his second start of the season, gave up three runs on just two hits and struck-out eight batters. His seven-inning start was the longest by a Charlotte starter so far this season.

The Knights tallied a total of 12 hits on the day and held a 7-3 lead over the Bulls until the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Bulls scored their final five runs of the game off of the Charlotte bullpen. LHP Jacob Lindgren gave up three of the five runs in the eighth inning. RHP Alex McRae (0-1, 11.57) was saddled with the loss after he allowed the final two runs of the game on a costly two-run home run to Kevin Padlo.

The Knights, who dropped five of six games in Durham, will now have an off day on Monday before opening a six-game series from Norfolk, VA against the Norfolk Tides on Tuesday night. First pitch from Harbor Park is set for 6:35 p.m.
