Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fell to the Rochester Red Wings 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field in Rochester.
The RailRiders took the lead in the top of the second on a leadoff home run from Socrates Brito against Red Wings starter Ben Braymer. It was the second home run of the year for Brito, and marked the fourth straight day that the RailRiders scored first.
Brody Koerner worked through trouble in his first three innings, before allowing a pair of runs to Rochester in the fourth. Koerner (0-1) allowed only the two runs on four hits and five walks in 4.0 innings of work, striking out one. He faced two batters in the fifth, but Brooks Kriske did not allow either to score.
Rochester added a run in the seventh against Addison Russ to extend the lead to 3-1. Sal Romano threw a scoreless seventh in his RailRiders debut, and Kyle Barrclough contributed a 1-2-3 eighth inning to keep the deficit at two.
In the top of the ninth, Armando Alvarez led off with a single to bring the tying run to the plate against Justin Miller. However, the right-hander retired the next three batters to close out the Red Wings win.
Alvarez was 2-for-4 with a double for his third consecutive two-hit game. He extended his hitting streak to nine games, the longest for a RailRiders batter this season. Hoy Park also finished 2-for-4, and has at least one hit in all six games he has played with SWB.
