The 'Birds Win Streak Ends on Sunny Sunday

Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds win streak was snapped at four on Sunday, as the Louisville Bats scored eight runs on 10 hits in an 8-3 win on a sunny, warm afternoon at AutoZone Park.

Matthew Liberatore started for the Redbirds (8-10) and started well, retiring the first six batters he faced. After that, the day turned ugly. Louisville (5-12) scored four runs in the next two innings on five combined hits, chasing Liberatore from the game after four innings. Michael De Leon's two-run home run with two outs in the third helped to balloon the lead from 1-0 to 3-0.

Memphis scored its runs via the big bats. Lars Nootbaar smacked two no-doubt home runs to right-center field and Kramer Robertson added a solo shot of his own. Nootbaar had four dingers in the six-game series against Louisville. The former USC Trojan also has hits in six of his last seven games.

Louisville scored four times in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach. Tony Santillan, the Bats' starting pitcher, chipped in a two-run single in the sixth. He went 5.1 innings in his start, allowing three runs (all earned) on five hits with three strikeouts. Santillan eventually picked up the win.

The Memphis Redbirds are the proud Triple-A Affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Memphis has claimed four League Championships and one Triple-A National Championship since their affiliation with St. Louis began in 1998.
