Abbotsford Heat News Release
Yanick Lehoux scored a hat trick to the lead the San Antonio Rampage to a 4-3 win over the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights on Tuesday at the AT&T Center. The loss snapped the Knights' franchise record eight game road winning streak.
The Rampage got off to a quick start when Alex Leavitt finished off a two-on-one with Donald MacLean for his tenth goal of the year.
That lead grew to two when Lehoux outmuscled several Knights' defenders and beat Curtis McElhinney with a wrist shot.
Lehoux struck again 3:17 later. He banged home a pass from Jakub Koreis to make it 3-0 before the game was even ten minutes old. That goal signaled the end of the night for McElhinney who was replaced by Brent Krahn.
The Knights began to turn the tide early in the second period. While shorthanded, Tomi Maki picked off a pass inside the Knights' blue line. He raced down the right wing and beat goalie Josh Tordjman with a wrist shot for his third goal of the year.
Maki figured in on the scoring of the next goal. He cut off a San Antonio pass just inside the blue line and fed Brandon Prust who snapped home his 16th goal of the season to make it 3-2.
The Knights tied the game just 1:32 later. Again, they were shorthanded when Warren Peters scooped up a loose puck, sped around a Rampage defender and cut to the net. His first shot was stopped but he knocked in his own rebound at 9:30.
Lehoux finished off the hat trick in the third period. Skating down the left wing, he cut around a Knights' defender and wristed a shot through traffic that beat Krahn to the stick side.
The Knights are now 42-23-4-1. It was their first road loss since a 4-1 defeat at Manitoba on February 14th.
Three Stars: 1. Yanick Lehoux (SAN) - Hat trick, game-winner; 2. Jakub Koreis (SAN) - 2 assists; 3. Tomi Maki (OMA) - 1 goal, 1 assist
The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights finish their four-game road trip on Friday when they visit the Iowa Stars for a 7:05 p.m. face-off. They will return home on Saturday to host the North Division-leading Manitoba Moose at 7:00 p.m.
