Charlotte Knights News Release
(Fort Mill, SC) - The Charlotte Knights are headed to the playoffs.
For the first time since 2006, Knights Stadium will be host postseason baseball as the Charlotte Knights clinched the top spot in the International League South Division with an impressive 2-1 victory over the Pawtucket Red Sox on Friday night.
Charlotte' first round opponent will be the Indianapolis Indians, who clinched the top spot in the International League West Division on Thursday. The Knights will open at Victory Field on Wednesday, September 5 and play game two from Indianapolis on Thursday, September 6.
The Knights will host the Indians in game three of the first round on Friday, September 7 and could host two more games of the best-of-five series if necessary at Knights Stadium. (September 8-9)
As for Friday's game, RHP Matt Zaleski (6-5, 3.77) tossed six solid innings and allowed just one run on two hits to earn the victory. Three relievers (Leyson Septimo, Daniel Moskos, and Jhan Carlos Marinez) combined to throw three scoreless innings. Marinez earned his fourth save of the season after shutting the door in the ninth.
The Knights scored both of their runs in the bottom of the first inning, courtesy of Jose Lopez, who came through with a two-run single off of Pawtucket starter Steven Wright (0-1, 3.00). The Knights held Pawtucket to just four hits.
Manager Joel Skinner has now guided two teams to an International League Division title. Skinner took the Buffalo Bisons to an IL North Division crown in 2000.
