OSHKOSH, WI - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, came back from the All-Star break strong, taking it to the Wisconsin Herd, 125-86, Thursday night at Oshkosh Arena.
With his seventh consecutive double-double and his eleventh overall this season, Dewan Hernandez (returning rights) led the Knicks (9-8) in scoring with 30 points (third 30-pt game this season), together with 13 rebounds and three steals. Coming off the bench, MJ Walker (Affiliate) had an all-around performance dropping 19 points-his third consecutive game in double-figures, dishing a career-high seven assists, and collecting six boards. Kethan Savage (tryout) tied his career-high with 18 points and set a new career superlative with 10 assists in the contest. Tyler Hall (returning rights) hit 4-6 triples on the night, and finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Aamir Simms (Affiliate) chipped in with 16 points and six rebounds.
Wisconsin (7-11) was led by 18 points from Terry Larrier. Wenyen Gabriel and Tiwian Kendley each finished with 15 points apiece.
Westchester's perfect aim from distance set the tone as the Knicks shot 6-6 from three-point territory to start play. Despite four lead changes in the game's first three minutes, the Knicks caught fire scoring 22 unanswered points, en route to a commanding 27-6 advantage with 4:55 remaining in the period. As a team, Westchester shot 66.7-percent from three and took a whopping 40-16 lead after one.
The Knicks continued the momentum throughout the second, going up by as many as 28 points, 52-24, at the 5:18 mark of the quarter. The score was 56-36 in favor of the away team heading to the locker room.
After the break, the visitors continued to punish the home team, opening a 38-point lead, 89-51, with 2:15 left in the period. Westchester outscored the hosts 37-21 in the third and led 93-57 after three.
It was more of the same in the final frame, as the Knicks did not let up, cruising to the 39-point decision.
The two teams will do it again in Wisconsin on Saturday, February 26, at 8 PM ET.
