Knicks Drop Season Opener to Go-Go

November 8, 2021 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release

WASHINGTON DC - After working up sizeable leads, the Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, eventually fell to the Capital City Go-Go, 107-103, to start its season.

The Knicks (0-1) commenced the season firing off 19 unanswered points through the first four minutes. A Jordan Goodwin driving layup severed the Knicks streak and found Capital City (1-0) on the board at the 7:20 mark. Westchester credited a lead as large as 22 points in the opening window before toting a 31-13 advantage into the second.

Goodwin got Capital City back within single digits at 8:54 of the second on a free-throw worth two points. The Knicks' control would not waver for the next nine possessions and the Go-Go failed to come within 10 points of Westchester until the 2:47 mark of the third. A 20-footer from Brandon Williams almost two minutes later pushed the visitors back up by 11 but a trey and a midrange jumper from Kyree Walker saw the Go-Go behind by five prior to the fourth quarter's start.

Almost three minutes into the final quarter, a three-point heave by Isaiah Todd made it a one possession ball game with the hosts down one, 85-84. Tyler Hall quickly poured in an answer and a two-point valued free-throw from MJ Walker moved the Knicks back up six with 8:54 to go. Hall and Todd would end with 20 and 15, respective points for their teams.

Capital City continued to get within striking distance and after deadlocking the score, 101-up, with 1:57 remaining, the Go-Go surged on a long distance make from Craig Sword. Sword would finish with just six points.

The Knicks were unable to connect on four attempted triples from that point on and accompanied by a turnover and goaltending call, the team's lone basket in the clutch time from Williams was not enough to hold off Capital City which scored six additional points.

Williams (tryout) led the Knicks with 23 points scoring three three-pointers, dished a team-high six assists and grabbed three steals. Walker (affiliate), finished with 22 points on 58.3-percent shooting and a game-high four steals. Two-Way player Luka Å amanić scored 15 points through the first half.

Goodwin registered a game-high 30 points for the foe and hauled eight rebounds. Jaime Echenique tabbed a double-double comprised of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Walker contributed 15 points in a reserve role.

Westchester will get another opportunity at Capital City tomorrow, November 6 at 7:00 PM ET.
