Cleveland Charge News Release
OSHKOSH, WI - The Cleveland Charge (0-2) of the NBA G League, presented by Cleveland Clinic, were defeated by the Wisconsin Herd (1-0) in a 126-124 thriller at the Oshkosh Arena on Monday night. The Herd's Rayjon Tucker hit a running floater with 0.3 seconds left for the victory.
R.J. Nembhard marked his debut with an all-around effort of 17 points, 11 boards and 11 assists for the first Charge triple double since Quinn Cook posted a 15 point, 12 rebounds & 12 assist effort on 11/18/16 and the seventh in team history. Kyle Guy scored 22 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter, hitting 7-of-12 threes in the game to go along with 10 rebounds for a double-double in 31 minutes. Tre Scott netted 24 points with nine boards, three steals and two blocks in 37 minutes.
Cleveland had a big second, outscoring Wisconsin 35-25 thanks in part to 13 points in the quarter off the bench from Justin James. The Charge nailed 6-of-13 threes in the quarter and 12-of-25 in the half overall to take a 61-55 lead into the break.
The Herd began to heat up in the third by taking advantage of high-percentage opportunities inside, outscoring the Charge 26-12 in the paint and 39-22 overall in the period to take a commanding 95-83 lead into the fourth. After being down by as many as 15, Cleveland's Kyle Guy found his shooting form in hitting five consecutive threes to help pull the visitors back within 104-101 and 8:01 left in the game. Guy hit 6-of-7 attempts from behind the arc overall in the fourth, his last tying the game at 124-124 before Tucker drove to the right and hit a high arcing shot for the game's deciding points.
Wisconsin was led by Lindell Wiggington's 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting in 30 minutes. Tucker finished with 17 points and three steals in 35 minutes, while Javin DeLaurier added 20 points in 18 minutes off the bench. The Herd got a couple double-doubles from both inside & outside the paint: Wenyen Gabriel had an 18-point, 12-rebound effort while Tremont Waters scored 17 points and dished out 12 assists in the win.
The Charge's Justin James came off the bench to provide 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists in 34 minutes. Josh Huestis added 12 points and six boards for Cleveland. The Charge's 22 made threes as a team also set a new franchise record.
