Erie, PA - The Erie BayHawks, NBA G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club (2-4) fell to the Westchester Knicks (5-2) 127-121 tonight inside Erie Insurance Arena.
Atlanta Hawks two-way guard Jaylen Adams had a historic night for the BayHawks. The St. Bonaventure product finished with a career-high 44 points on 13-22 (.591) shooting from the field, including a 10-17 (.588) clip from three-point territory, three rebounds, four assists and two steals in 41.2 minutes of play. Adams' 10 made triples are tied for the most made three-pointers in a single game in franchise history (Gabe York-10, December 15, 2016). His 44 points are now the second-most points scored in a single game in BayHawks history, trailing only Ivan Johnson (46, January 14, 2011). R.J. Hunter notched a triple-double tonight, tallying 25 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, a game-high 10 assists and two steals in 38.4 minutes of play. In his first start of the season, John Gillon swiped a team-high three steals, to go along with 16 points and five assists in 41.4 minutes.
The Knicks were led by John Jenkins' team-high 35 points on 12-23 (.522) shooting from the floor, including a 5-10 (.500) mark from deep, a team-high 11 rebounds, four assists and a game-high four steals in 37.3 minutes. Billy Garrett led all bench scoring tonight, tallying 17 points on 6-9 (.667) shooting, six rebounds and two assists in 25.6 minutes of action. Westchester held advantages in points in the paint (54-50), second chance points (18-12) and fast break points (15-10).
The Knicks jumped out to a 15-point, 27-12, lead off of a pair of Luke Kornet free throws with 4:15 left to play in the first quarter. Erie narrowed its defect heading into the second quarter of action, 31-24. The BayHawks closed the gap to get within three points of the Knicks, 36-33, with 9:18 left in the opening half. Westchester responded by going on a 10-3 run, capitalized by a John Jenkins layup. Heading into the intermission of tonight's tilt, the Knicks held a 63-55 advantage.
Erie gained its first lead of the night, 66-65, off of a Jeremy Hollowell triple, assisted by Jaylen Adams, at the 10:14 mark of the third quarter. After three quarters of play, the BayHawks held a one-point, 94-93 lead. Westchester would begin the fourth on an 8-2 run to take a 101-96 lead with 9:48 left to play in regulation. Westchester would eventually walk away with a 127-121 win.
The BayHawks will meet the Knicks again on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, NY. Erie will remain on the road for a Friday matinee contest against the Greensboro Swarm, with tipoff at 2:00 p.m. The BayHawks will be back inside Erie Insurance Arena on Tuesday, November 27 as the reigning Eastern Conference champs Raptors 905 come to town.
