Kisio Named Assistant Coach of World Junior Championship

LETHBRIDGE, AB - Hockey Canada announced Tuesday the coaching staff for the upcoming 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship Tournament and Lethbridge Hurricanes head coach Brent Kisio was named as one of three assistants.

Kisio, 35, has spent the last three seasons as the head coach of the Hurricanes helping them to the post-season each year, including back-to-back Eastern Conference Championship Series appearances. In his three seasons with the 'Canes, Kisio has posted an overall record of 121-76-15 and a winning percentage of .571. He sits third all-time in coaching victories with the Hurricanes.

Internationally, Kisio has coached Canada at various tournaments. Most recently, he was the head coach of Canada's National Men's Summer Under-18 Team where he captured a gold medal at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in Slovakia. He was also the head coach of Team Canada White at the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Kisio earned a silver medal as an assistant coach of Team Pacific at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Kisio joins fellow Western Hockey League head coach Tim Hunter (Moose Jaw Warriors) who will serve as Canada's head coach. Marc-Andre Dumont (Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, QMJHL) and Jim Hulton (Kingston Frontenacs, OHL) were also named assistant coaches.

The 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship is slated to take place this December in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia.
