Swift Current Broncos News Release
Swift Current, SK: The Swift Current Broncos Hockey Club announced Tuesday morning that forward Giorgio Estephan has signed a contract with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.
The 21-year-old WHL graduate joined the Broncos via trade prior to the 2018 WHL trade deadline and recorded 86 points (30g-56a) in 69 games of which 28 of those points came with Swift Current. Estephan surpassed a pair of notable milestones last season by playing in his 300th WHL regular season game while earning his 300th career WHL point in February.
Estephan proved to be clutch in the Broncos' WHL Championship run to the Ed Chynoweth Cup as the Edmonton, AB native accumulated 23 points (13g-10a), including seven power play markers and four game winners while suiting up in all 26 games.
The 6'0?, 195 lb forward was drafted by the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the first round, 14th overall in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft and had spent his entire career before joining Swift Current in the second half of the 2017-18 season. For his career, Estephan finished his five-year WHL career totaling 325 points (131g-194a) in 327 games.
Estephan was once a prospect of the Buffalo Sabres, having been drafted by the club in the sixth round, 152nd overall at the 2015 NHL Draft.
With the signing, all three 2018 Broncos' WHL graduates are inked to pro hockey contracts as forward Glenn Gawdin is under contract with the Calgary Flames while forward Matteo Gennaro inked a deal for the AHL's Tucson Roadrunners in late June.
