Kinston Falls, 4-2

August 28, 2007 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Kinston Indians News Release

The K-Tribe bats fell silent late, as Winston-Salem beat Kinston 4-2 on Tuesday night. The K-Tribe jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Josh Rodriguez singled home Jose Constanza in the bottom of the third inning. Rodriguez would score one batter later when he advanced to second on a wild pitch, then scored on a John Drennen ground ball that was booted by the second baseman. Beau Mills would lead off the fourth inning with a double, but that was the last hit Kinston would muster in the contest. Kinston managed just four hits in the game, with two coming from Rodriguez (2-for-4). Winston-Salem erased a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Warthog outfielder Stefan Gartrell hit a high fly ball to left field that just got over wall for a two-run home run.

Kinston starter Erik Stiller (3-6) took the loss, giving up six hits and four earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. Stiller struck out a season high seven batters while walking one.

Winston-Salem starter Brian Omogrosso (8-8) took the victory for the Warthogs, giving up one earned run and four hits in six innings. Winston-Salem's bullpen of Justin Cassel, Joe Torres and Jon Link combined to no hit Kinston in the final three innings of the game.

Kinston returns to Winston-Salem for game two of the four game series on Wednesday night at 7pm. Steven Wright will get the start for Kinston.
