Bristol State Liners News Release

Coming off their longest game of the season, the Bristol Pirates were unable to complete a late rally against the Kingsport Mets in an 8-4 loss on Sunday night.

After either leading or remaining tied for the first seven innings, the Pirates fell behind in the eighth inning after a pair of throwing errors would end up leading to Kingsport scoring two runs. The Mets added on four more runs in the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly and a three-run home run from Ranfy Adon.

The Pirates scored twice in the bottom of the ninth on a bases-loaded walk from Brendt Citta and a sacrifice fly from Mikell Granberry, but Chase Lambert grounded into a force out with the bases loaded to end the game.

Three players accounted for all four of the Pirates' hits in the loss, with Jonah Davis leading the way with two doubles. Francisco Mepris recorded an RBI single in the first inning, while Mason Martin singled in the bottom of the ninth inning to load the bases. The number four through nine batters in Bristol's lineup combined to go 0-for-21 with six walks and four strikeouts.

Steven Jennings threw a career-high six innings for the Pirates, allowing two runs -- one earned -- on four hits while striking out three to record his first career quality start. Jennings also recorded his first career pickoff on Sunday, catching Luis Santana off first base in the sixth inning. Allen Montgomery earned his first career loss, allowing two runs -- one earned -- on four hits and two walks while striking out two over two innings.

The Pirates (13-17) will go for the series win on Monday night in the final game of their six-game home stand. Shane Baz will get the start for Bristol, as he looks to bounce back from his last two starts where he has gone 0-2 with an 8.30 ERA.

After the series with Kingsport is completed, the Pirates will kick off a six-road trip with a three-game series against the Bluefield Blue Jays. They will then travel to Elizabethton for a three-game series before returning home on July 31 where they will host the Blue Jays.
