Pulaski River Turtles News Release
BLUEFIELD, Va. - In a game that saw a one hour, 45 minute rain delay in the first inning, the Pulaski Yankees found themselves on the wrong end of late-inning scoring to drop game two against Bluefield by a 6-4 final score Sunday night. For the second consecutive night, the Blue Jays tallied two runs in the home half of the eighth inning that would prove to be the difference in the contest.
The tarp came out in the bottom of the first inning and caused a rain delay of nearly two hours, the longest of the Yanks' season. After the delay, Bluefield opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the third before Pulaski used a Nelson Gomez double and bases-loaded walk to Robert Javier to take a 2-1 advantage in the following frame.
Again this series, the Yankees and Blue Jays traded the lead throughout the game, with Bluefield's D.J. Neal hitting a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth to give the home team a 3-2 lead. Javier answered with a two-run double for Pulaski in the following inning to put the Yankees back on top 4-3, but the Blue Jays would counter with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to knot the score at 4-4.
The game remained tied until the eighth inning when Andres Guerra put the Blue Jays in front for good with a solo home run to left center. Cal Stevenson followed with a triple and came home to score on an error on the same play to give the Blue Jays an insurance run and 6-4 lead, which they would hold for the remainder of the game.
Stevenson paced Bluefield with a 4-for-5 performance, while Evan Alexander and Javier recording multi-hit performances for Pulaski going 2-for-3.
Pulaski will look to avoid the sweep in the series finale Monday night, beginning at 7:05 p.m. in Bluefield. The game marks the final contest on a six-game road trip for the Yankees, who will return to Motor Mile Field at Calfee Park Tuesday night.
