MANCHESTER, NH - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have acquired a second-round draft choice in either the 2007 or 2008 NHL Entry Draft and a fourth-round draft choice in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for defenseman Brent Sopel, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
Sopel, 30, has played in 44 games with the Kings this season, recording 23 points (4-19=23) and 14 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Calgary has played in 414 career regular season NHL games with the Kings, New York Islanders and Vancouver, and has 176 points (38-138=176) and 213 penalty minutes. Acquired by the Kings from the Islanders on March 8, 2006, with Mark Parrish for Jeff Tambellini, Denis Grebeshkov and a conditional third-round draft choice in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Sopel was originally selected by Vancouver in the sixth-round (144th overall) of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
