Bears acquire Scott Barney from Grand Rapids

HERSHEY - The 2006 Calder Cup Champion HERSHEY BEARS announced Monday that the club has acquired Scott Barney on loan from the Grand Rapids Griffins in exchange for right wing Jonas Johansson. The BEARS also announced in conjunction with the Washington Capitals late Monday night that defenseman Andy Hedlund has been acquired from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Lawrence Nycholat. The announcements were made today by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.

Barney, who played for HERSHEY head coach Bruce Boudreau in Manchester from 2002-04, scored 32 goals last season in just 53 games for the Chicago Wolves (AHL). He also played in three games for the Atlanta Thrashers in 2005-06. Barney scored 20 goals in 44 games under Boudreau in 2003-04 for Manchester (AHL), and also scored five goals in just 19 games that season for Los Angeles (NHL). Barney is expected be available for HERSHEY'S game in Albany Wednesday night.

Hedlund, a 6'3", 215 lbs native of Osseo, Minnesota, has played in 56 games this season for Binghamton (AHL), notching five goals and 26 points. He is expected to make his HERSHEY debut Wednesday night in Albany against the River Rats. Hedlund, who played his college hockey at Minnesota State-Mankato, has 270 games of American Hockey League experience.

HERSHEY travels Wednesday to face the Albany River Rats at Times Union Center before returning home this weekend. The BEARS will host the Binghamton Senators Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. before welcoming the Hartford Wolf Pack to GIANT Center on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.
