Kings take second straight from Grizzlies

The Gateway Grizzlies committed two errors and allowed the Kalamazoo Kings five runs in the fifth inning as the Kings rolled to a 10-3 win Sunday evening in Kalamazoo, Mich. Rain delayed the game for one hour during the eighth inning.

The loss was the Grizzlies fourth in a row, and dropped their record to 6-11. Kalamazoo is now 12-5.

Kalamazoo scored two in the first on a two-run homer, before adding a third run in the third. They led 8-0 after the fifth inning. They would add two more in the eighth on a two-run homer following the rain delay.

The Grizzlies only runs came in the sixth inning when they started the inning with a walk and three singles. Todd Oetting and Freddy Lopez each picked up RBIs in the inning. Oetting scored when Phil Warren grounded into a double play.

Oetting was 1-4 with the RBI. Freddy Lopez was 1-3 with an RBI.

David Smith started and took the loss for the Grizzlies. Smith went 4 1/3 innings allowing six runs on seven hits. He walked four and struck out one. Ryan Hamilton contributed 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. He struck out three.

The Grizzlies and Kings will play the final game of the series Monday night in Kalamazoo, MI. Game time is 5:35 central time. Fans can tune in beginning at 5:30 p.m. on 1380 ESPN radio and the Grizzlies radio network.
