ROCKFORD, Ill. â The Rockford RiverHawks blew a ninth-inning lead as the Mid-Missouri Mavericks rallied to win, 7-5, at Marinelli Field.
Thomari Story-Harden singled in the winning runs to cap a 4-for-5 game.
The RiverHawks rallied to take a 5-4 lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Rockford bullpen couldn't hold on. Bobby Mack retired the first two batters in the ninth, but John Wright singled and Eli Albertson walked. Derrick Ellison came on and gave up back-to-back singles. Brent Metheny drove in the tying run and Story-Harden singled to left to drive home two more.
Ellison blew the save for the fourth time this season. Mack (1-1) was tagged with the loss. Travis New (1-0) pitched two hitless innings and won in relief.
Rico Santana was 0-for-4 with a RBI groundout. His hitting streak ended at 13.
The rubber match of the three-game series is at 7:05 p.m. Monday.
