Kings recall two from Manchester

EL SEGUNDO, CA. - The Los Angeles Kings have recalled defenseman Jason Holland and center Chris Schmidt from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, Kings Senior Vice President/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today.

Holland, 26, has played in 44 games with the Monarchs this season, recording 19 points (1-18=19) and 39 penalty minutes. In 24 career NHL games with the Kings, New York Islanders and Buffalo Sabres, the 6-3, 210-pound native of Morinville, Alberta, has two points (1-1=2) and 12 penalty minutes. He was signed by the Kings as a free agent on August 23, 2001.

Schmidt, 26, has played in a team-high 49 games with the Monarchs this season, recording 22 points (12-10=22) and 58 penalty minutes. The 6-3, 212-pound native of Beaver Lodge, Alberta, has never appeared in an NHL game. He was signed by the Kings as a free agent on April 30, 2001, after being originally selected by the Kings in the fifth-round (111th overall) in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.

Both Holland and Schmidt were recalled by the Kings earlier this season but neither player appeared in a game. Holland wears No. 53 while Schmidt sports No. 51.

The Kings kick off a two-game road trip today in Dallas against the Stars at 4 p.m. (PT). The game will be broadcast on XTRA Sports 690/1150 and along the Kings Radio Network. The trip concludes Tuesday in Nashville.
