
Kings Hold On for 5-4 Win in Finale

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo Kings defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 5-4 Thursday night in the finale of a three-game series to avoid a sweep at Homer Stryker Field.
Trailing 2-1, the Kings (8-31) scored single runs in the second and third innings to go up 3-2 and they never relinquished the lead. They added a pair of runs in the sixth against Grizzlies starter B.J. Dail to take a 5-2 lead after six.
The Grizzlies (20-20) cut the lead to 5-4 with two runs in the top of the seventh, thanks to a two-run double by Jason Patton. Patton hit a two-run home run in the second inning to put the Grizzlies in front 2-1. He finished the night 2 for 4 with all four RBIs. He finished the three-game series 7 for 14 (.500) with the homer and 10 RBIs.
Charlie Lisk was 2 for 4 with a pair of runs scored. Brandon Peters had the only other hit for the Grizzlies.
Dail (3-3) took the loss for the Grizzlies. Dail allowed all five runs on six hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out five. Richard Barrett finished the game with 2.2 scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit and struck out five.
The Grizzlies return home to begin a three game series with the Windy City ThunderBolts at GCS Ballpark Friday. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
