Kenosha Kingfish News Release
La Crosse, Wis. - On a gorgeous night at Copeland Park, the evening couldn't have gotten off to a better start as the Kingfish took down the hosting La Crosse Loggers 10-6.
In the first inning, Jeremy Vasquez got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly. Minutes later, Alex Borglin belted his first home run of the year, scoring three and pushing the Kingfish ahead by four. The scoring would not stop there as Alex Dunlap added two more runs in the third inning, and Zack Weigel plated three runs with a three run jack of his own. Nick Sergakis iced the cake with a solo shot in the ninth, giving the Kingfish a 10-1 lead going into the bottom of the ninth.
The Loggers then started to come back. Things got very interesting when Ryan Kirby sent a three run shot over the left field wall and the next two batters, McCoy and Zimmerman, drew walks. Duffy Dyer turned to J.R. Holloway who walked one, then gave up two more runs, before finally recording the last three outs, all via strikeouts.
E.J. Trapino started for the Kingfish, lasting 4.2 IP and only giving up one run. His successor, Mario Samuel, made his Northwoods League debut and was magnificent. Samuel earned the win as he threw 2.1 IP and struck out three without letting up a single hit. Garrett McKenzie worked one inning and struggled, giving up five runs, while Holloway worked one scoreless inning of action.
Offensively, the Kingfish collected thirteen hits. Eric Filia and Nick Sergakis picked up three hits apiece while Zack Weigel and Alex Dunlap each turned in two hit performances. Borglin and Weigel were each credited with their first home runs of the season while Sergakis' sixth blast of the summer ties him for the league lead along with Kingfish teammate Jason Scholl.
The win makes the Kingfish the only team in the South Division still undefeated in the second half of the season. The Kingfish will play in La Crosse one more time tomorrow night at 5:05 p.m. before coming home for a two game series against these same Loggers.
The Kingfish ticket office powered by Platinum Systems is located at 7817 Sheridan Road and is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
