
Bullfrogs Fail to Move Past Walks, Defensive Miscues En Route to Loss

Green Bay, Wis.- Simply put, it was one of those games. The Bullfrogs (24-15/2-2) fell to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (16-18/1-3) by a tally of 14-4. It was tied for the most runs the Bullfrogs have allowed all season (05/28 14 vs. STC). 14 walks allowed by six Bullfrogs pitchers was also a season high.
The winning pitcher was Jack Riley (LHP/UConn) who tossed 6IP/4R(3ER)/3K-4BB. The losing pitcher was Chad Dullnig (RHP/Ranger College) who went 1 2/3IP/2H/6R(0ER)/1K-3BB. Dimitry Shtykher (RHP/Russia) recorded the save with 3IP/0R/2H/0K-2BB. It was
Green Bay scored first after Brian Celsi (California) doubled and scored on a passed ball. The double was Celsi's first hit in 2015, as he finished with a 2-for-4 performance.
The Rafters would retaliate with a major eight-run second inning knocking new starter Dullnig out of the game with two outs in the second inning, although he allowed no runs.
In the frame, 12 batters went up to the plate, with two walks, a hit batter, four hits, and three errors. During the inning Chad Dullnig (RHP/Ranger College) was pulled for Matt McCarthy (LHP/Penn State) as the Bullfrogs trailed 8-1 after two frames.
The Bullfrogs would get a little closer with a two-run fifth inning on two, two-out RBI hits from Ryan Donovan (Hofstra) (35RBI/1st NWL) and Desi Ammons (Belmont).
In a 8-3 ballgame, the Rafters continued to unload offensively and take advantage of a season high 14 Bullfrogs walks. Through innings 5-7, the Rafters scored six runs with five hits and eight walks.
With the bases loaded in the fifth, Jake Sandlin (Georgia College) walked in a run, and in the sixth a Zack Domingues sacrifice fly and Ernie Clement (Virginia) RBI double plated two more. And the Bullfrogs walked in Domingues and Scotty Wright (North Florida) in the seventh along with a sacrifice fly from pinch hitter Michael McCann (Seattle).
Ernie Clement (Virginia) paced all Rafters hitters with another three hit performance in just his second game, and also posted a run with two RBI. Brock Carpenter (Seattle) had a hit and three RBI.
The Bullfrogs used a total of six pitchers including the first two outings from position players in Connor Ross (Ft. Hays State) and Matt De La Rosa (Lenoir Rhyne) who combined for 1 2/3IP of scoreless relief.
In his debut pitching appearance of the year, De La Rosa was pumping in 91MPH on the gun, to remain one of two Bullfrogs (Ryan Donovan) to have appeared in all 39 official games this season.
Green Bay next travels to Michigan for four games, the first a 4:05 CST contest against the Kalamazoo Growlers (9-29/1-4). The Growlers are the only team of 18 in the Northwoods League still without double-digit wins.
