Gateway Grizzlies News Release

Sauget, Ill. - Corey Kimes tossed six scoreless innings to pick up his first win in a Grizzlies' uniform on Wednesday night at GCS Ballpark, as Gateway cruised to a 7-2 win over the Normal CornBelters.

Kimes (1-0) struck out seven batters in his performance while allowing just two hits. The Grizzlies' offense struck early and often against Normal RHP Chris Carmain (0-2) in the first three innings.

In the first, Craig Massoni doubled with two outs which was followed by Brandon Thomas' RBI single. In the second, Sam Fischer ripped his second homer of the year over the right field fence to make it 2-0.

The Grizzlies (6-5) broke things open in the third. Cody Livesay started the frame with a single and Logan Davis followed it up with a single of his own. After a double steal, Massoni plated a run with a sac fly. Vin Guglietti then stepped in with two runners on-base and laced a two-RBI double into the right-centerfield gap. Guglietti's hit put Gateway ahead 5-0.

In the fifth, Blake Brown blasted a two-run shot to right field for his second homer of the year.

RHP Adam Eggnatz replaced Kimes and allowed a two-run homer to Nolan Meadows in the seventh. It scored the first runs that Eggnatz had allowed in 2016.

RHP Jordan Wellander and RHP Nate Carter combined to shut out Normal (2-9) the rest of the way. They pitched two scoreless frames to wrap things up.

The Grizzlies aim for a series sweep on Thursday night. RHP Trevor Richards (0-1, 3.72 ERA) takes the mound for Gateway against CornBelters RHP Mike Schweiss (1-1, 3.48 ERA). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

The game can be heard on the Grizzlies Radio Network, which airs Thursday on 1400 AM KJFF and www.GatewayGrizzlies.com/Radio. Sam Levitt and Matt Sabados will call the game.
