Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Seon Gi Kim was phenomenal for the AquaSox in the second game of the doubleheader against the Spokane Indians, leading Everett to a 2-0 victory. The right-hander struck out 13 batters and didn't allow a hit in six innings of shutout baseball.
The 20-year-old from South Korea had excellent command of his breaking balls all night, and at one point struck out seven batters in a row. Seven of Kim's strikeout victims were on called third strikes.
The AquaSox (7-2) coaching staff made the decision not to let Kim go out for the seventh and final inning of the game after reaching 91 pitches through six.
Brandon Plotz relieved Kim and pitched the final inning to earn the save, allowing Spokane's lone hit of the game.
On the offensive side of the ball for the Frogs, Chris Taylor provided the only RBI and went 3-3 on the night with two doubles. The fifth-round draft pick raised his batting average to .433, and continues to show great defense up the middle.
Leadoff hitter Jamodrick McGruder stole two bases for the Sox, increasing his team-leading total to seven swipes on the year. Despite a .160 batting average, the Texas native continues wreak havoc on the basepaths due to his team-leading nine walks.
Right-hander Connor Sadzeck (0-1, 4.82 ERA) started for the Tribe (1-8) and earned the loss. The 20-year-old gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits while walking three and striking out five in 4 1/3 innings of work.
The AquaSox will go for the five-game sweep when they take on the Indians in a 1:05 start Sunday. The Frogs will send out right-hander Jose Valdivia, and right-hander Abel De Los Santos will take the bump for the Tribe.
