BOISE, Idaho - Dane Phillips roped an RBI double off the wall in right to break a 4-4 tie in the seventh inning, helping the Eugene Emeralds to a 5-4 victory over the Boise Hawks, before 2,350 fans at Memorial Stadium.

Alberth Martinez lined a one-out single in the seventh, with Phillips delivering the go-ahead run to give the Ems the lead. Alex Lara, Matthew Chabot, and Roman Madrid retired the next nine men in a row to close out the victory.

After starter Ian Dickson retired the first nine Eugene batters in a row, the Ems batted around in the fourth, with a Jeremy Baltz RBI single and River Stevens singled home two to give the visitors a 3-0 lead.

Boise responded in the fifth, getting RBI singles from Chadd Krist and Gioskar Amaya, followed by a two-run Marco Hernandez double, to give the Hawks a 4-3 lead. The lead did not last for long as a RBI double by Brian Adams in the sixth scored B.J. Guinn from first to tie the game.

Stevens, Phillips, and Corey Adamson each had two hits for Eugene, with Chris Haney picking up his first win. Madrid tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his first professional save.

Seven different Boise batters had one hit apiece, with Roderik Pichardo taking the loss, allowing two runs in three-plus innings of relief.

The rubber game of the series is tomorrow night, with Willengton Cruz meeting Mike Watt at 7:15 p.m.
