Richmond Kickers News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Richmond Kickers (6-17-3) fell on the road in the first-ever meeting with Nashville SC (10-7-8) at First Tennessee Park Tuesday night. Tucker Hume gave Nashville a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Goals from Bradley Bourgeois, Matt LaGrassa and a second from Hume gave Nashville all three points on the night.
Nashville had a chance to go ahead just after three minutes. Alan Winn found space at the top of the Richmond box. He whipped in a cross to find Kris Tyrpak at the top of the six-yard box. Tyrpak was able to get a head on the cross as he sent his shot wide of the Kickers goal.
Ten minutes in, and Richmond would get their first chance at goal. Raul Gonzalez played the ball out to the left for Brian Shriver to make a run onto. He cut back towards the center of the field and tried his luck from distance. Matt Pickens was able to come up with the save.
A minute later, Braeden Troyer nearly came up with the opener. Luiz Fernando picked up the ball in the corner on the right side. He played the ball back for Troyer in plenty of space. With no pressure, Troyer went for goal, as his shot take took a deflection going in. Pickens came up with the last ditch save and concede the corner.
Luiz Fernando would have a go in the 16th minute. Brian Shriver switched up the play to get the ball out wide on the right side. Fernando cut across the field and had enough space to go for goal from distance. Matt Pickens would need to push the ball wide for the save.
Trevor Spangenberg came up with a save in the 41st minute to keep Nashville off the board. Lebo Moloto picked up control of the ball from Michael Reed. Moloto cut back to his left foot and tried to sneak his shot into the far post as Spangenberg came up with the save.
Nashville would finally break the dead lock with two minutes to go before halftime from Tucker Hume. Michael Reed sent in a cross from a corner kick that defected back out to him on the right side. He then floated a cross into the back post for Hume, who beat Conor Shanosky to get a head on the ball and was able to get it past Trevor Spangenberg for the opener.
The home side would grab a second just three minutes into the second half, this time from Bradley Bourgeois. Michael Reed stood over another corner for Nashville, this time playing in the cross towards the top of the six. Bourgeois leaped to beat Conor Shanosky to the ball and headed it past Spangenberg.
Matt LaGrassa made it 3-0 in the 57th minute. Lebo Moloto found Kosuke Kimura making a run up the right flank as he fed the ball up the field. As he reached the end line, he went for the quick near post pass to LaGrassa for the tap in.
Tucker Hume picked up a brace, scoring the fourth of the night for Nashville. Michael Reed once again stood over a set piece, this time a free kick in front of the Nashville bench. He was able to connect with Hume at the penalty spot, arching a header over a diving Spangenberg.
The Kickers will head to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to take on Indy Eleven this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. That match will be available on WTVR CBS 6.3 (Comcast 206, Verizon FiOS 466) as well as streaming online through ESPN+. Stay up to date with the Kickers at RichmondKickers.com.
