Kichton's Goal Brings In 4,651 Teddy Bears

The Spokane Chiefs six game win streak came to an end on Saturday night at the hands of the Swift Current Broncos in a 2-1 final in the Spokane Arena. Brenden Kicthton's second goal of the season was the Chiefs Teddy Bear Toss goal and brought 4,651 bears from the stands in the annual promotion that goes to benefit The Spokesman-Review Christmas Bureau.

The goal at 3:27 of the third cut Swift Current's lead in half after they took a 2-0 lead 2:34 into the period while the Chiefs were on the power play. The Broncos scored the game's first goal at 12:31 of the first on a Stepan Novotny shot. Swift Current also had four of their six power play opportunities in the first. A scoreless second period saw 28 combined shots, 16 from the Chiefs, but Swift Current's Mark Friesen and Spokane's James Reid both shut the door on scoring opportunities.

Kichton's goal came on the same power play Swift Current scored shorthanded on and made the Chiefs 1-3 on the man advantage. Spokane outshot the Broncos 43-30.

The Chiefs lost for the first time in six outings in the Spokane Arena.

Spokane has three games remaining prior to the holiday break, including Tuesday night's trip to Seattle at 7:00. Mike Boyle will go on the air at 6:30 with Comcast HockeyTonight on 1510 KGA. The Chiefs will host Portland on Wednesday and Seattle on Friday night.
