Ian Curtis Earns Second Shutout In Winterhawks' 2-0 Win Over Everett

Portland Winterhawks News Release
Ian Curtis earned his second career shutout Sunday as the Portland Winterhawks defeated the visiting Everett Silvertips 2-0 at the Rose Garden.
Curtis turned away all 23 shots the Silvertips put on net. His previous shutout came in the season opener on Sept. 19 in a 5-0 win in Seattle. Curtis made 24 saves that night.
Offensively, the Winterhawks' red-hot line of Ryan Johansen, Nino Niederreiter and Brad Ross struck again in the first period to open the scoring. Johansen and Ross did an excellent job of keeping possession of the puck along the boards in Everett's end. From the end boards Ross then fed Niederreiter right in front of the Silvertips net, and he fired it past Everett goaltender Thomas Heemskerk to make it 1-0.
After a scoreless second period, that line struck again as Brad Ross fired a puck from the left faceoff circle past Heemskerk at the 4:21 mark of the third period to make it 2-0. Ross and Ryan Johansen each finished with two points on the night.
With his goal, Niederreiter earned his 37th point of the season to regain sole possession of the league lead for points among rookies.
The Winterhawks travel to Spokane to take on the Chiefs Wednesday, then return home to play Swift Current Friday and Tri-Cities on Saturday. Both of those games are at the Rose Garden.
