Frederick Keys News Release
Friday night started on a high note for Frederick but did not end that way. The Keys struck first with a run in the first inning but eventually fell 11-4 to Potomac. With the win, the Nationals kept their ½ game lead in the Northern Division while the Keys have now tied a season-high four games in a row.
After LHP Nathan Moreau tossed a scoreless first inning, CF Kyle Hudson led off the home half of the first with a triple down the rightfield line. SS Bobby Stevens hit a RBI single to give the Keys a one-run advantage. Potomac starter, RHP Adrian Alaniz, stranded picked off Stevens and stranded two runners on base to keep the damage minimal after the first.
Potomac tied the game up in the top of the third but the Keys responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. With one down, RF Ronnie Welty hit his 26th double of the season to right-center. DH Billy Rowell singled home Welty to give Frederick a 2-1 lead.
The Nationals took the lead for the first time in the fourth and would never relinquish it. With one down and a man on first, LF Robbie Jacobsen grounded into what looked to be an inning ending double play. However, Jacobsen was called safe and first and he would score just a few pitches later when DH Sean Nicol hit a triple down the rightfield line. CF Nick Moresi hit a RBI single off Moreau that gave the P-Nats the 3-2 lead.
After being held scoreless after the first two innings, Potomac scored a run in six of the last seven innings en route to the 11-4 rout of Frederick. 1B Tyler Moore connected for his 29th home run of the season in the eighth inning off LHP Brett Bordes. Moore's homer set a Potomac/Prince William franchise record for home runs in a season.
In all, the Keys walked eight batters, threw three wild pitches, hit three batters, and committed two errors in front of 7,763 in attendance, the second largest crowd of the 2010 season.
1B Tyler Townsend finished the night with two RBI including a towering blast in the bottom of the eighth, his first career long ball at Harry Grove Stadium. LHP Nathan Moreau, who will head back to the University of Georgia after Friday's start, got the loss after surrendering four earned runs on five hits over 4.2 innings pitched. Moreau went 4-5 in 10 starts with the Keys and 6-8 overall in 2010 with Delmarva and Frederick.
The Keys will look to put an end to their four-game losing streak on Saturday night. Frederick will send RHP Oliver Drake (5-6, 4.46) to the hill while Washington National rehabber, LHP Ross Detwiler, will start for Potomac. Detwiler was the sixth overall pick in the 2007 draft. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. from Harry Grove Stadium.
Saturday night is also Salute to the Blue Collar Worker Night presented by Precision Heating and Cooling. Fans can also receive a free ticket general admission ticket to the game if they donate a piece of clothing to the Goodwill Donation vehicle that will be located in the Harry Grove Stadium parking lot (limit four per family). Fireworks presented by Precision Heating and Cooling will follow the game.
