WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AUGUST 27, 2010) - Winston-Salem took advantage of three Myrtle Beach errors and scored three unearned runs to beat the Pelicans 5-2 on Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark. Greg Paiml and Kyle Shelton each doubled in runs for the Dash offense as Winston won the first game of its final regular season home stand.

Myrtle starter Matt Crim got into trouble by walking Jason Bour to lead off the second inning. After Drew Garcia struck out, Shelton grounded a ball to the shortstop. Mycal Jones short-hopped his throw past second baseman Jordan Kreke into right field for an error, allowing Bour to move to first base and Shelton to reach first. Paiml followed with a double that hit halfway up the wall in right field to score Bour.

Kenny Williams hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring home Shelton and make it 2-0 Winston-Salem (30-28, 73-55). The Dash scored again when Jose Martinez' grounder to Kreke ricocheted off the second baseman's glove and into centerfield, allowing Paiml to come home from third.

Crim's defense let him down again in the third inning. Ozzie Lewis singled with one out before Bour chopped a ball to the third baseman. Samuel Sime bobbled to ball and then airmailed his throw to first, allowing Lewis to get to third. Bour was credited with an infield single to put men on the corners. Garcia then bounced a ball to Sime, who caught Lewis in a rundown for the second out. Shelton followed with a double down the left field line that scored Bour and Garcia to make it 5-0 Winston.

The Pelicans (29-32, 55-76) got their only runs in the fourth. Joe Serafin gave up a walk and a double to start the inning. Sime drove in one run with a fielder's choice groundout while Cody Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to cut Myrtle's deficit to three.

Serafin (2-4), Jake Rasner, and Tyson Corley combined to shut out the Pelicans over the final five innings. The trio did not allow a man past second base over the stretch. Corley struck out two men in a perfect ninth inning to nail down his ninth save.

The win went to Serafin, who gave up two runs on just three hits in 5.2 innings. Crim (7-10) was the loser after allowing five runs (two earned) on nine hits in six innings.

The win tied the season series between the teams at nine apiece. The Dash goes for the series win and at least a tie of the season series on Saturday night. RHP Terry Doyle (6-8, 3.54) faces the Pelicans for the fifth time this season. He will be opposed by RHP Zeke Spruill (3-4, 5.26), who makes his second start against Winston-Salem. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the audio broadcast beginning at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com .
