
Cats Lose Lead, Drop Opener In Extras

Kyle Day singled, doubled and scored a run, but the Hillcats couldn't hold onto a two-run lead and fell to Wilmington in extra innings 8-5.
Lynchburg scored first in the second inning. Josh Fellhauer singled with two outs, and scored on Jose Gualdron's second home run of the season.
Wilmington scored once in the top of the third, but Lynchburg answered back with another run in the bottom of the third. Brodie Greene doubled with one out. Greene then scored on a single by Cody Puckett to make it 3-1 Hillcats.
But the Blue Rocks drew level in the fourth. Nick Francis hit a one-out single. Then Salvador Perez homered to tie the game. It was Perez's third home run in his last two games against Lynchburg.
Tied 3-3, the Cats capitalized in the sixth. Kyle Day reached on a double. After Ryan LaMarre grounded out, Fellhauer singled to score Day and put the Cats up 4-3.
In the seventh, Lynchburg struck for another run. After Kevin Coddington grounded out to start the inning, the next two men reached. Miguel Rojas singled, and Greene reached on a bunt single. Cody Puckett flew out to the wall in left, and then Neftali Soto singled. Greene was tagged out at third just after Rojas was able to score, and the Hillcats were up 5-3.
Wilmington scored once in the eighth to draw within one. Wil Myers singled and eventually scored on an infield single by Perez. In the ninth, the Rocks once again pulled even against closer Nick Christiani. Patrick Norris reached on an infield single with one out and stole second base. Adrian Ortiz then doubled in Norris to tie the game at five.
Both teams went scoreless into the top of the 12th inning, when the Blue Rocks offense woke up. Reliever Doug Salinas walked Myers, and he advanced to second on a single by Ernesto Mejia. Francis then doubled home Myers, the go-ahead run. Perez followed with a sacrifice fly to put the Rocks up two. Eddie Prasch then doubled in Francis for an 8-5 Wilmington advantage.
The Hillcats tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the 12th. Rojas and Greene both singled to lead off the inning. After the next two batters were retired, Chris Richburg walked to load the bases. Ryan LaMarre then singled home Rojas and Greene to pull the Cats within one. Fellhauer then grounded out to end the game.
Daniel Guerrero made his first start for the Hillcats and threw five innings. He gets no decision after giving up three runs, all earned and striking out three. Ezequiel Infante threw two scoreless innings in relief before the Blue Rocks tied the game in the ninth. Christiani gets the blown save, and the loss goes to Salinas.
Lynchburg and Wilmington continue their series tomorrow night at 6:05. Josh Ravin (2-0, 0.00) throws for the Cats opposite Buddy Baumann (4-2, 2.32). City Stadium hosts Fan Appreciation Night, and Fan Appreciation Fireworks presented by AT&T. Gates open at 5 p.m.
