Potomac Nationals News Release

FREDERICK, MD - On a night that Tyler Moore wrote himself into the Potomac Nationals history books, the Nationals scored a big series-opening 11-4 victory in Frederick that maintained their standing atop the Carolina League's Northern Division.

Moore's 29th home run was smoked to straight-away center field at Harry Grove Stadium in the eighth inning, by which time the P-Nats had the game in hand. Moore surpasses Hensley Meulens and Nate Dishington as the all-time leader, and now stands nine RBIs shy of that milestone.

The Keys jumped out in front against Potomac starter Adrian Alaniz in the first. A leadoff triple by Kyle Hudson became a run when Bobby Stevens singled to center. Billy Rowell's one-out single moved Stevens to second base, but Alaniz picked him off there for a huge second out. After he walked L.J. Hoes, Alaniz got Tyler Townsend to line out and end the inning.

Potomac tied the game in the third. Francisco Soriano walked with two outs and stole second base. After Dan Lyons walked, Bill Rhinehart singled to left to score Soriano.

Frederick got their last lead in their half of the third; Ronnie Welty lashed a one-out double and scored on a Rowell single.

The Nationals took the lead for good with a two-out rally in the fourth. Sean Nicol tripled to score Robbie Jacobsen, who narrowly avoided an inning-ending double play to tie the game at two. Nick Moresi beat out an infield single to score Nicol and set the Nats in front 3-2. Moresi would leave the game with an apparent leg injury.

Dan Lyons scored on one of Frederick's four wild pitches in the fifth inning to make it 4-2. The Keys got their third run in the sixth when Townsend scored L.J. Hoes with an RBI single. The P-Nats got two more runs when Jacobsen's bounding infield single in the seventh scored Sean Rooney and Jose Lozada.

Brett Bordes got the last out of the seventh inning, but he pitched the eighth and will be forever linked with Moore in the Potomac history books. With a run already across in the eighth (Chris Curran scored on another wild pitch), Bordes issued a one-out walk to Lyons. He got Rhinehart to line out, which brought Moore to the plate. The laser to straight away center made it 9-3 and removed the suspense on a warm Friday night.

Potomac tacked on two more in the ninth after Townsend hit a homer in the eighth to close out the Keys' scoring.

Justin Phillabaum, Patrick McCoy and Rob Wort each pitched an inning in relief of Alaniz, who earned his eighth win.

The two clubs resume the series on Saturday night at 6 P.M. Ross Detwiler makes his second rehab start for the P-Nats. The broadcast can be heard beginning at 5:40.
