
Keys top Avalanche, 6-3, in game one

SALEM, VA- The Frederick Keys (27-31) and Salem Avalanche (25-33) played one and a half games of a doubleheader, as the Avalanche beat the Keys, 6-3 in game one, before the second game was suspended due to heavy rain with the Keys leading 4-1 in the fifth inning.
The game will resume on Wednesday night with two outs in the fifth inning and Frederick at the plate.
In game one, the Avalanche took a 2-0 lead in the second inning behind a two-run home run from Ervin Alacantara, his second.
Travis Brown hit his second homer of the season in the top of the third inning, off Juan Beltre, to bring the Keys within a run. Saul Torres would hit his own solo shot in the bottom of the third, his ninth, to put the Avalanche back ahead by two runs, 3-1.
The Avalanche would score two more runs in the sixth inning when Wilton Reynolds tripled to drive in Torres and Mario Garza singled to drive in Reynolds.
Mike Russell would double in the seventh inning to drive in Bryan Bass before Nate Spears singled to drive in Russell, but the Keys could not manage anymore offense.
Reinaldo Ruiz doubled in the eighth inning to drive in Garza to conclude the scoring, as Salem took game one 6-3.
Zach Dixon falls to 1-6, allowing five runs on seven hits over 6.0 innings. Beau Hale in his first appearance since 2002 walked five batters in 1.1 innings and allowed one run on one hit.
Juan Beltre (2-0) earned the win tossing 4.1 innings allowing one run on three hits. Aaron Williams earned his 12th save after tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
The Keys will play one and a half on Wednesday and have Thursday off before traveling back to Frederick for a three game weekend series with the Potomac Nationals. Tickets are still available by calling 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or visiting www.frederickkeys.com.
