TONIGHT'S GAME:

Lynchburg nears the conclusion of a seven-game road trip with the middle game of a three-game series against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at Coastal Federal Field. Last night, the Pelicans picked up a walk-off, 3-2 victory in 11 innings over the Cats. Lynchburg's lead in the Northern Division is 8.5-games over the Frederick Keys.

• Magic Stick: The Cats magic number to clinch the first-half Northern Division crown is four.

• Close on thc Coast: The last seven games played at Coastal Federal Field have been decided by one run.

• Extra, Extra!: After playing 57 straight games decided in regulation, the Cats played their first extra-innings game of 2005 last night.

TRANSACTIONS: LHP Greg Martin (see page 4) was activated from the Disabled List yesterday. To make room on the active roster, RHP Julio Guererro was assigned to Hickory (A, SAL).

DRAFT DAY: The Pirates selected CF Andrew McClutchen with the 11th overall selection in the draft today. The Ft. Meade (FL) H.S. product hit .709 (39-55) with 11 HRs and 28 RBIs during his senior season, and was named H.S. Player of the Year in Florida.

• Tonight, RHP Patrick O'Brien, (see page 3) seeks another strong outing at Coastal Federal Field against RHP Sean White, who has been defeated just once this year in seven decisions.

• White, 24, is a 6-4, 195-pound righty drafted by Atlanta in the 8th round of the 2003 Draft out of University of Washington. The native of Mercer Island, WA, started last season in the South Atlantic League with Rome, going 3-3 with a 6.44 ERA and 1 SV in 13 G, 1 GS (36.1 ip, 43 h, 26 er, 12 bb, 20 k) before his promotion on 6/10. He compiled a 6-6 record with a 3.60 ERA in 18 g, 10 gs (70.0 ip, 62 h, 34 r, 28 er, 24 bb, 41 k) with Myrtle Beach. He spent his inaugural pro season in the Appy League with Danville.

2005 SERIES WITH MYRTLE BEACH

Lynchburg leads the season series, 5-2, following their first ever series sweep of the Pelicans, home or away, 4/29-5/1. The Pelicans won the 2004 season series, 14-6. In 2003, the Cats won the series, 13-7 -- marking the first time Lynchburg had ever taken a season series from Myrtle Beach. Overall, the Birds lead the lifetime series, 69-57 (.548) with a 37-27 (.578) edge at Coastal.

• Nail Biters at Beach: 22 of the last 27 G between these teams at Coastal have been decided by 3 or fewer R (10 are by one R).

The Cats have lost consecutive games for the 1st time since 5/12-5/13...Still, they have gone 14-5 over their last 19 contests, extending their Northern Division lead by 5.5-games in the process...3B Avelino Asprilla has hit safely in 9 of his last 11 games (15-36, .416-3-11) including six multi-hit games...OF Adam Boeve has hit safely in 5 straight (8-20, ..400-2-6)...
