Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington, DE â The Wilmington Blue Rocks won both ends of a doubleheader over the Kinston Indians at Frawley Stadium on Tuesday night. Wilmington won the opener, 6-3, and took the nightcap, 6-2. Strong starting pitching was the key throughout the night, as the Rocks snapped a season-long four-game losing streak.
The Blue Rocks completed the sweep with an outstanding start from lefty Andrew Dobies (1-0), who was making his Wilmington debut. After Scott White's fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot in the first, made it, 3-0, Dobies went to work. In five and two-thirds innings, the 22-year old retired 19 of the 22 batters he faced, yielding only a solo home run to Ryan Mulhern in the second and an RBI double from Anthony Lunetta in the sixth.
Randy Beam got the final four outs for the Blue Rocks to earn his fifth save of the season.
In the opener, Jose Vaquedano (3-1) held the K-Tribe to just three hits over six innings, striking out six. Edgar Martinez worked a perfect ninth inning for his third save.
The Blue Rocks exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off Kinston starter Bear Bay (5-3), sending ten batters to the plate. The big blast was a two-run double by Chad Spann with the bases loaded, hitting off the left centerfield wall, narrowly missing a grand slam.
Iggy Suarez went 2-for-3 in the opener with a pair of RBI singles.
The two teams will meet again Wednesday evening for another doubleheader at 5:05 p.m. The first game will be a nine-inning game, the continuation of Monday's suspended game. There is no score in the game, and the Blue Rocks are coming to bat in the bottom of the second inning. The nightcap will be a seven-inning game.
Tommy Hottovy (2-6, 7.21) will pick up the suspended game, and Barry Hertzler (2-2, 4.50) will make his first start of the season in game two. For tickets or more information, call (302) 888-BLUE or visit the official website of the Wilmington Blue Rocks, www.bluerocks.com.
