Frederick Keys News Release

LILLINGTON, N.C.- The Frederick Keys (8-16) hit two home runs on their way to a 9-4 victory over the Buies Creek Astros (16-8) on Sunday afternoon. The win snapped a nine-game road losing streak, and a five-game skid overall.

The Keys scored in the top of the first. Ryan McKenna was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a Randolph Gassaway single. Jomar Reyes then hit into a fielder's choice that scored McKenna and gave the Keys a 1-0 lead.

The score remained 1-0 until the fourth. Collin Woody singled to lead off the frame, and Alejandro Juvier reached on an error from Astros starter Brandon Bielak. Two batters later, Chris Clare walked and then Woody scored when Stuart Levy was hit by a pitch. The lead was extended to 3-0 when Juvier scored on a wild pitch.

Frederick added to their lead in the fifth on just one hit and five total walks. Gassaway walked, but was erased on a double play. A two-out double from Woody kept the inning going, and the Keys then walked four straight times to bring in two runs.

In the seventh, the Keys put together two long at-bats that resulted in home runs. Woody launched a solo home run on the 14th pitch of the at-bat, and two-batter later, J.C. Escarra hit a two-run home run on the eighth pitch of his at-bat.

The orange and black added insurance in the eighth. Following a Gassaway single, Reyes drove him home with a double to right-center field.

The Astros scored four times in the bottom of the eighth. With two men on, Abraham Toro singled to score a run. Chas McCormick followed with an RBI single, and Troy Sieber brought in two with a double to make it 9-4.

In his first start of the year, Jhon Peluffo (2-0) fired five shutout innings and picked up the win. Allowing just three hits, Peluffo struck out four and walked two. Bielak (3-2) took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) over four innings.

Following an off day on Monday, Frederick returns home for a three-game series against the Salem Red Sox on Tuesday. Left-hander Alex Wells (0-2, 3.60) will get the start for the Keys while the Red Sox have not announced their starter. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio App. For tickets, fans can call 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
