Keys reinstated from Disabled List; Morales released

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a pair of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's game against the Mobile BayBears at Bragan Field at 7:05 p.m.

Outfielder Brent Keys has been reinstated from the disabled list and added to the Suns roster. Keys began the year on the disabled list with a lumbar disc herniation, and has not seen playing time in 2014.

Keys is the reigning Miami Marlins Minor League Player of the Year after winning the Florida State League batting title with a .346 batting average for Jupiter in 2013. Keys was promoted to Jacksonville on August 25 and played in the final eight games of the year for the Suns, posting a .281 average.

Keys is listed by Baseball America as the No. 19 Marlins prospect coming into the 2014 season and the publication also gave him the "Best Strike Zone Discipline" superlative. Keys was selected by the Marlins in the 17th round of the 2009 draft out of Simi Valley High School in Simi Valley, California.

In a corresponding move, outfielder Angel Morales has been released by the Marlins organization. Morales played in 13 games for the Suns hitting .125 (4-for-32) with no homers and no runs batted in.

The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players and a revised roster is attached.

Saturday is Cancer Awareness Night at Bragan Field, with all ladies in attendance receiving pink shirts courtesy of Cancer Specialists of North Florida. Additionally, the Zooperstars will be at Bragan Field (presented by CBS 47, Fox 30 and Lite 96.1), there will be a Blood Drive at Bragan Field (presented by The Blood Alliance) and the Suns will have a butterfly breaded shrimp dinner offer as well.
