
Smokies Out-Slug Generals In Series Opener Saturday

JACKSON, TENN. - The Generals scored six runs in a game for only the second time in their last 17 games, but lost 10-6 to the Tennessee Smokies Saturday in Jackson, during the series opener. The Smokies notched 18 hits in the game, the second-most in a single game in the league this season. The Generals have dropped three straight while the Smokies have won eight of their last eleven.
Tennessee got on the board first with two runs in the first inning. The Generals got one run back in the bottom half on an RBI single by Dan Paolini (2-5, 1 R, 4 RBI). One inning later Paolini picked up his second hit, a grand slam to left field, and Jackson led 5-2 after two.
The Smokies came right back though with a two-run homer of their own from Stephen Bruno that cut the lead to 5-4 after three. Tennessee got their second home run of the night from Jeudy Valdez in the fourth to tie the game at 5-5. Two more crossed the plate in the fifth for the Smokies, who retook a lead they would not give up, 7-5.
Bruno finished the game 4-for-6 with two home runs and a triple shy of the cycle. He scored three runs and driving in four as he hit two of the three Smokies home runs in the game. Rubi Silva and Valdez each finished the game with three hits while John Andreoli and Kris Bryant added two hits each for Tennessee.
Manny Pina (2-5, 2 RBI) broke out of his slump for the Generals, going 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Paolini and Patrick Brady (2-4, 1 R) each added two hits as Brady extends his hit streak to five games.
P.J. Francescon picked up his fourth win for the Smokies on the season improving his record to 4-1. Jordan Shipers (0-3) took the loss for Jackson falling to 0-3 on the year. Generals' starter Kyle Hunter allowed five runs on five hits in 3.1 innings pitched, taking a no decision.
The two teams will be back in action on Sunday for Family Fun Day Sunday at The Ballpark in Jackson. Right hander Matt Anderson (0-0, 0.00) will make his Double-A debut for the Generals and the Smokies will send Matt Loosen (2-2, 3.90) to the mound. The game is scheduled to start at 6:05 pm and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
