Frederick Keys News Release

All night the Frederick Keys were staring uphill at a deficit. With two outs in the ninth the Keys could almost look over the peak. 3B Billy Rowell, batting with two on, two out and Frederick down by one run, lined a sharp line drive that ended in the glove of Pelicans 2B Yoel Campusano who briefly lept in the air after the grab clutching the final out. The 5-4 loss in the opening game of the weekend three-game series is the fourth in a row for Frederick, its longest such streak of the season.

Myrtle Beach took the lead by scoring a run in each of the game's first three innings. Campusano homered in the third inning on a line drive into the left field bleachers to put the Pelicans atop 3-0.

But the Keys would rally behind a big night from CF Kyle Hudson. Hudson singled home Bobby Stevens in the sixth inning to get the Keys on the board. He went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

It would be a big run as well. After the Keys scored twice in the sixth inning, Frederick trailed 5-3 into the ninth. Hudson singled off of the third base bag. With two down 1B Joe Mahoney rocketed a line drive first pitch double to right field. Hudson scored all the way from first and the Keys had life. DH LJ Hoes worked his second walk of the night setting the stage for Rowell who put good wood into the game's final out.

The Keys finished the month of April at 11-10 with a one-game lead in the Carolina League's North.

Ryan O'Shea will try to end the losing streak Saturday, May 1st in game two of the series from BB&T Coastal Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

Frederick returns home for Kids Eat Free Monday, May 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the opener of a four-game series with Winston-Salem. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
