May 5, 2010 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys drop their first game in the month of May Wednesday night, as they fell 3-0 to Winston-Salem. The Keys had eight hits in the game but could not get a run across as they were shutout for the first time in the 2010 season. Keys starter, LHP Rick Zagone, had another solid outing but falls to 0-3 on the year. Zagone pitched, a season-high, seven innings allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out six and walking zero. LHP Justin Edwards picked up the victory for the Dash. He improved to 3-2 on the season.

Neither team scored a run in the first three innings of the game as they were completed in a crisp 35 minutes. Zagone faced the minimum after three but ran into a bit of trouble in the fourth. He gave up back-to-back hits to RF Brandon Short and SS Eduardo Escobar to lead off the inning. The next batter up for the Dash was 3B Jon Gilmore. Gilmore rolled the Zagone pitch over to 2B L.J. Hoes. Hoes quickly flipped to SS Greg Miclat and he fired over to 1B Joe Mahoney to complete the double play. Short moved from second to third on double play. DH Seth Loman was the next Dash batter to come to plate. Loman muscled a Zagone fastball to right field for the RBI single. Winston-Salem led 1-0 after four innings.

The Dash plated a run in the fourth and led 2-0 heading into the sixth. With two out in the top of the sixth, 1B Kyle Shelton hit a high flyball to centerfield but Xavier Avery lost it in the lights. Shelton hustled around for a triple and 2B Drew Garcia drove him in for his second RBI of the night.

Frederick had runners in scoring position with no outs in both the eighth and ninth but could not get a run across. RHP Kyle Bellamy threw two scoreless innings out of the Dash bullpen while RHP Gregory Infante closed out his, Carolina League best, 11th game of the season in the Winston-Salem, 3-0, win.

RHP Sean Gleason pitched two scoreless innings of relief in the losing effort. The Keys bullpen has not allowed a run in 12 2/3 innings of work in the series against the Dash.

Thursday will prove to be a quick turnaround. First pitch for the final game of the four-game set is scheduled for 11 a.m. RHP Ryan O'Shea (2-2, 5.96) gets the start for Frederick while RHP Nate Jones (3-1, 2.96) toes the rubber for Dash.

Thursday morning is Senior Day presented by Asbury Methodist Village. For tickets call 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at www.frederickkeys.com.
