Frederick Keys News Release

Helped out by three Potomac baserunning blunders, the Keys shutout the Nationals, 2-0, on Tuesday night in Frederick. The Keys have won 12 of their last 14 games including eight straight at Harry Grove Stadium. The Keys also sit atop the Northern Division of the Carolina League with a 22-15 record.

LHP Rick Zagone picked up where he left off in his second start with the Keys in 2011. Zagone tossed six scoreless innings against Lynchburg last Thursday and on Tuesday night he did the same. The Keys' 2010 Opening Night starter allowed three hits, walked four, and struck out four over six shutout frames.

Potomac made two critical errors on the base paths in the first three innings of the game. With one out and two on in the top of the second, C Sandy Leon lined a pitch to centerfield. CF Miguel Abreu sprinted in to make the catch and after making the catch realized 3B Justin Bloxom was well off second. Abreu fired into SS Garabez Rosa to complete the inning-ending double play. In the following inning, DH Cutter Dykstra bounced reached on an infield single but SS Francisco Soriano was caught napping at second. Rosa pegged a throw behind Soriano and Hoes tagged out Soriano for the second out of the inning. The P-Nats stranded the bases loaded in the top of the third.

Frederick got on the board against RHP Paul Demny in the bottom of the third. With two outs, LF Steve Bumbry reached on a single. DH Buck Britton followed with a RBI double to right field. Bumbry scored all the way from first as scored under the tag of C Sandy Leon.

The Keys scored another run off Demny in the sixth on a RBI single by CF Miguel Abreu.

RHP Justin Moore relieved Zagone in the seventh and tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. RHP Sean Gleason came in for the ninth to try to close another Keys victory. Gleason walked 2B Jeff Kobernus and RF Destin Hood to start the inning. After 3B Justin Bloxom reached on a fielder's choice, Gleason struck out 1B Steven Souza for the second of the inning. Following the strikeout, C Brian Ward fired to first and 1B Tyler Townsend slapped a tag on Bloxom to end the game.

Zagone improved to 2-0 on the season while Demny fell to 1-3. Gleason notched his, Carolina League leading, 10th save of the season.

Frederick and Potomac take the diamond on Wednesday night for game three of the four game series. LHP Nathan Moreau (3-2, 3.56) will take the hill for the Keys.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Harry Grove Stadium.
